Capricorn II is an 18-channel audio installation that plays a
series of audio events describing a sonic atmosphere loosely inspired
by the sounds of GM's "Futurama" exhibit at the 1964 World's Fair
(Queens NY). The sounds consist of composed effects, samples of Raymond
Scott's electronically produced radio ads as well as manipulated found
sounds from an array of electronic devices, which litter our
evironment. The final composition is a translation representing an idea
of intergalactic superhighway transport.
The sonic motion is decidedly directional, providing an encompassing impression of converging spacecraft traffic.
( installed at the Queens Museum, Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, NY from June through October 2001.)
